All about Senior Appointment Jobs

Every organisation needs senior managers. They are the people who run the organisation on a day-to-day basis, often reporting directly to the chief executive. A group of senior managers tends to sit directly below a chief executive, with another layer (or more) below that in larger organisations. Nationwide businesses such as retail chains may have a regionalised system of area managers.

Getting a senior appointment requires experience and drive. It will often require specific qualifications too, although depending on the sector, experience may well substitute for these (although it may be impossible to get that experience without the qualifications). In large companies and the finance industry in particular, an MBA may be a considerable asset to those aiming for senior roles. Senior managers in particular areas – such as law or accountancy – will need to have worked in those professions.

To gain a senior appointment, you will normally have to work your way up through layers of middle management, and have proved yourself to be a highly effective manager. It’s not always necessary to do so within a single company: senior staff are often expected to move around, as their talents are generally much in demand. From senior director level jobs, the next step is chief executive.
