All about HR Jobs

Human Resources is essentially about working with people. As an organisational function HR has lost its labels of ‘office social workers’ or administrators. Organisations are constantly changing and the enablement of this change is rooted in the work force. The HR department is involved in the preparation of people for the types of change that an organisation must undertake. Finding and retaining staff is increasingly difficult and is often outsourced to specialist organisations.

Work includes everything from working on the business strategy, designing and developing the organisational structures of the future or recruiting, resourcing and talent-planning. This means identifying and attracting people who can create a competitive advantage for an organisation. Finding staff is only part of the job – employee retention is also part of the job. This means identifying talent within the organisation and enabling them to deliver agreed future plans. Development of relationships and cultures are key methods.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development offers information, resources and HR qualifications. These demonstrate practical skills at Foundation, Intermediate and Advance levels, right up to professional memberships (Associate, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow) and are the equivalent of GCSEs, A-level, undergraduate and post-graduate studies.
