All about Banking and Finance Jobs

Financial Services and banking deal with the management of money: insurance companies, stock brokers, investment funds, credit unions, commercial and investment banks, regulators, all fall into this group. Whilst the London postal area EC3 and Canary Warf are home to a concentration of these sometimes prestigious organisations and hence the work that flows from them, it would be a mistake to overlook the reach of banking and finance jobs across the UK.

The front line of banks and building societies are the retail branch network which employees cashiers, accountants, administrative and support personnel, insurance experts, secretarial and sales staff. Many of these jobs require GCSEs and training on the job.

As with accounting it is not necessary to be educated to degree level to have a career in this industry, it may come down to the opportunity of the employer covering the cost and agreeing to spend three years in education. Of course if you want to be a Quant (Quantitative analyst) you would have that calculation to perform about a PhD rather than a BSc. The Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Financial Services are important professional bodies.
