All about Agriculture and Horticulture Jobs
As the world grows in population we must increase our production of food and other agricultural products to meet demand. The food that we eat, the flowers in our gardens and the paper in our offices all come from the products of the agriculture and horticulture industries.
These careers often appeal to those with a love of nature and the outdoors, as they allow you to work away from a desk in a more physical manner. This is not to say that the field is not intellectually stimulating, many important advances and development are made regularly, and organisational and analytical skills are an asset in many positions.
Careers in agriculture and horticulture range from unskilled roles in farm labour and produce picking to professional roles in research and genetics. Roles open to graduates include forestry management, conservation, regulatory and inspection positions and laboratory positions. Many roles within agriculture and horticulture are best suited to those with vocational training such as that provided by the Royal Forestry Society and the Royal Horticultural Society. Many educational institutions also offer qualifications and training in various areas of agriculture and horticulture.
